How Much Does a Marriage Celebrant Cost in Sydney?
If you have opened six celebrant websites and found six completely different prices, welcome to the club.
There is no regulated fee for a civil marriage celebrant in Sydney. You are not buying a standard product off a shelf. You are paying for someone’s time, writing, legal responsibility, planning, equipment, travel, communication and ability to stand in front of everyone you know without turning the ceremony into something painfully generic.
My price: my full Sydney marriage celebrant service is $1,500. The useful question is not just “Is that expensive?” It is “What exactly am I getting for it?”

Why do celebrant prices vary so much?
Because the service varies just as much.
One celebrant may be offering a very short standard ceremony with minimal preparation. Another may spend hours interviewing you, writing from scratch, helping with vows, coordinating ceremony music, checking documents, liaising with a planner and making sure the room feels right before you even arrive.
Experience matters too. The writing is only one part. The legal side has to be right. The microphone has to work. The cues have to happen. The celebrant has to read the room, deal with a late arrival, pronounce every name correctly and keep the whole thing feeling effortless.
Pauli’s take: if the ceremony looks easy on the day, there has usually been quite a lot of work behind it.
What about a simple legal wedding?
If you do not want a fully personalised ceremony, I also offer Simple Legal Weddings from $1,000.
That service is deliberately different. It suits couples who want the legal marriage handled promptly and professionally without building a larger ceremony around it. Waterloo is often the simplest option.

Does travel cost extra?
Sydney metro travel is included in my standard fee. Regional weddings are quoted according to the location and timing. As a rough guide, regional travel is often around $200, but I will always give you the actual figure before you book.
Should you choose a celebrant based on price?
Price matters. It is your wedding budget, not Monopoly money.
But I would compare fit and inclusions before simply sorting from cheapest to most expensive. Have a conversation. Ask how the ceremony is written. Ask what happens with music and sound. Ask what support you get with paperwork and vows. Then decide whether you actually want that person standing beside you on the day.
What if you want a celebrant and an MC?
My MC service is also $1,500. If you book me for both, the combined Celebrant + MC package is $2,700, saving $300.
The saving is nice. The bigger benefit is continuity. One person knows you, the family, the tone and the plan from the ceremony right through to the reception.
